[VIDEO 1] PHILIPPINES DIBADAI TYPHOON WASHI

(Klik Translator untuk bahasa pilihan anda) 10:17AM GMT 17 Dec 2011 : Tropical storm Washi ravages Philippines. Two metre high floods submerged several towns along Iligan City and Cagayan De Oro province as residents were caught by surprise by the rising waters which occurred a few hours after midnight. Typhoon Washi, with winds gusting up to 56mph, hit late on Friday causing widespread flooding, trapping residents inside their homes.

Officials said 20,000 soldiers had been mobilised in a huge rescue and relief operation across the stricken north coast of the island of Mindanao. The major ports of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan were worst hit, and an estimated 100,000 people had to flee their homes. The local government has declared a state of emergency in the flooded regions and sent food and water to the thousands of displaced families. It was expected to head out to the South China Sea by Sunday. Disaster agency officials said they could not yet estimate the extent of damage to crops and property because emergency workers, including soldiers and police, were busy evacuating families and recovering casualties.
